A Message from Dr. Bishop
On behalf of Radford City Schools, I would like to welcome you to another exciting school year. The Radford City school division is built on a “Tradition of Excellence.” Our tradition begins with our employees who are incredibly talented and committed to children as well as to the teaching/learning process. All of our teachers are highly qualified and support the mission of meeting a student’s emotional, social and academic needs.
Upholding the tradition is also evident in the dedication of the approximately 1,560 students who attend Radford City Schools. Our students consistently excel in academics, athletics, and the arts. Radford High School graduates compete, with much success, for admission to colleges and universities throughout the United States. The Class of 2007 sent better than ninety percent of its graduates to institutions of higher learning. Other members of the class used their education and training from Radford High School to obtain meaningful employment.
Radford City Schools is continually looking for ways to meet the needs of our students. During the 2007-08 school year, we have added full day Kindergarten at McHarg Elementary and a new alternative education/credit recovery program at Radford High School. We are also pleased to have our students attend the Southwest Virginia Governor’s School for the first time. Lastly, our final new program for the year is a partnership with New River Community College, which allows our students to attend NRCC for advanced Career & Technical Education courses.
We are fortunate in Radford to have a community that supports the school division and values education. Parental involvement and community support in the education of our students is essential if we are to be successful in our mission. By working together, we can ensure that students benefit from the various educational opportunities that are available. We encourage business, industry, parents and community members to take ownership in our schools by supporting the efforts of our Parent-Teacher Organizations and booster clubs.
Thank you for your continued participation and involvement. Have a great year!
Sincerely,
Chuck Bishop, Ed.D.
