Two of the Blue Ridge region’s outstanding teachers are richer by $25,000.00 and will take the international trips of their dreams as the 16th annual McGlothlin Awards for Teaching Excellence winners. Thomas D. McGlothlin, President of the McGlothlin Foundation of Bristol, VA presented them with checks and trophies April 16 in an evening ceremony at Radford University’s Bondurant Auditorium. Four runners-up each received $1,000.00 and smaller trophies.
The secondary level winner, Tina Tapp, teaches ninth grade English and Journalism at Radford High School in Radford City Schools. Tapp received her bachelors from Radford University in 1994 and her masters from Holland University in 1999. She plans to visit Germany, Poland and Buenos Ares to gain additional knowledge on the Holocaust for her classes. She will join a Holocaust tour in Germany and Poland and visit Buenos Ares where many survivors immigrated.
