We have a class meeting each day. It is at
this meeting that we discuss the ways we should act and treat each other in our
school. We learn a different survival tip each day at the beginning of
school. Once we have established our main ideas about how to show respect,
we practice them until we have an issue we need to address with a new survival
tip.
Many of these tips come from the book, 55 Essentials written by
Ron
Clark, the Disney Teacher of the Year in 2000.
1. Say "Yes ma'am" and "No, ma'am" when
responding to adults.
2. Shake hands, call people by their names, and speak politely to others.
3. Include everyone.
4. Pick up all trash.
5. Learn from your mistakes and move on.
6. When there is a substitute here, follow the same rules and treat him/her with
respect.
7. Surprise others with Random Acts of Kindness.
8. Be as organized as possible.
9. Turn homework in at the expected time.
10. Congratulate classmates.
11. Say "Thank you" when someone does something nice for you.
12. We will go outside at our regularly scheduled time (unless there is rain!)
13. Transitions between subjects should be swift and quiet!
14. Follow along when we read together in class. You should always know where we
are and be able to pick up where we stop.
15. Let the teacher be the teacher. You need to be the student!
16. Raise your hand to ask questions after the teacher has finished talking.
17. No matter what the consequences, always be honest!
18. Cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze! Wash your hands thoroughly several
times a day to stay clean and healthy!
19. Remember the Homework Policy!
