What are the normal school hours and what happens if there is a weather delay?
Zero period classes start at 7:35 a.m.  For those students who do not have a zero period, homeroom starts at 8:10 a.m. School lets out at 2:35 p.m. and the students are expected to be out of the building by 2:45 p.m. unless participating in a supervised activity or requested to remain by a teacher.  The school office is open from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

When school is delayed an hour, home room starts at 9:10. When delayed by two hours, homeroom starts at 10:10. PLEASE NOTE: When school is delayed, there is NO zero period!

School delays and cancellations can be found on most of the major news programs. WDBJ7online (www.wdbj7.com) has a good listing of cancellations as they come in and is updated often.

What are the policies for absences?
An absence will be considered unexcused until a written excuse is presented, signed by a parent. Absences due to illness, illness at home, religious holidays, injury, death in the family, medical or dental appointment, emergencies when so judged by the homeroom teacher and/or principal, will be excused when an excuse written by a parent is presented to the homeroom teacher. "Personal business" is not a legitimate excuse for absence.

What happens when I return from an excused or unexcused absence?
Students should present their reason and or note for absence to their homeroom teacher during the homeroom period. The homeroom teacher will give you an admittance slip. Following an absence, no student shall be permitted to enter a class without an admit slip. The sixth period teacher will collect admit slips and will turn them in to the office at the end of the day. Teachers will sign the admit slip when it is presented by the student. Admit slips are also required following an unexcused absence.

It is important to note that all work missed due to any absence must be made up on the student's time. It is his or her responsibility to make arrangements with each teacher to make up work.

Is it true that I can checkout a laptop to take home?
Yes, you can! You need to get a form that explains the rules and care of the laptops from Mr. Williams or Mrs. Ramsey. Take the form home and have a parent read and sign it.  When you return it, you will be able to take home a laptop for 3 days. The laptops are checked out on a first-come first-serve basis and are not Internet capable.
