2010 Summer Residential Governor's School Participants

The Summer Residential Governor's Schools for the Gifted offer enormous opportunities for rising high school juniors and seniors of exceptional ability.  The Virginia Department of Education offers state Summer Residential Governor's Schools in humanities, math/science/technology, life sciences, agriculture, and visual and performing arts (visual art, vocal music, instrumental music, dance, and drama).  Highly competitive mentorships are available in engineering and marine science.  Students also may apply to the Foreign Language Academies, or to the Regional Governor's School at Wise, which offers a program in drama.  All of these opportunities are funded entirely by the local school division and the General Assembly.

Radford High School nominates candidates for these programs, and the Virginia Department of Education makes the final selections.  Admission is based on the student's written application and essay, standardized test scores, GPA, class rank, and written teacher recommendations.   Admission is highly selective.
