| Dalton Intermediate School opened in the fall of 1979. Its initial enrollment was 323, and current enrollment is slightly under 300 students. Dalton offers Special Education and Gifted services, and eighth grade students may chose to enroll in high school math, band, and foreign language courses. The school has a staffed, state-of-the-art technology lab, and a Technology-to-Go program that allows students to check out laptop computers. Students may participate in a wide range of sports and other extracurricular activities. |

On a fall morning in 2002, Dalton students watched history happen as demolition crews imploded the old Memorial Bridge (left), which only recently had been replaced by the new Memorial Bridge (right). The old bridge was constructed over half a century before as the only route from Radford across the New River. (Today, the Interstate 81 bridge also provides a route across the river.) Incorporated in 1892, Radford is a city with a rich history and a promising future. Located in the Appalachian foothills, Radford has a population just over 16,000. The home of Radford University, the city also boasts an excellent public school system. Radford is a city willing to grow and adapt, but not merely for the sake of change. As in this photograph, Radford's future is an outgrowth of a past that works. |
