Kindergarten Registration for Radford City residents will be held on Tuesday, March 23, 2010 from 11:00-2:00 and 4:00-7:00 p.m. in the McHarg Elementary School Library. 

A child may enter Kindergarten if he/she has reached the age of five on or before September 30, 2010.

The following statements, taken from Virginia School Law (22.1-254 and 22.1-256), outline compulsory school age requirements:

Children who are five years old by September 30, 2010 may be enrolled, or the parents must notify the school that they will wait a year.

Children who are six years old by September 30,2010  must be enrolled in school.

The school needs to have the following items in order to admit a child to Kindergarten:

1. Virginia Physical examination, including immunizations by a licensed physician given within twelve months prior to the opening of school in the fall.

2. Birth Certificate (original)

3. Social Security Card

4. Proof of Residency (Utility Bill, copy of lease or deed, etc.)

As Radford enters its fourth year of full day Kindergarten in 2010-11, it is very important for the school division that all children are registered on March 23. 

The items listed above are not mandatory at the time of registration, but we must have these before your child enters school in the fall.
