Report Card
Report Cards

Just as children learn to walk at different times
during the first two years of their lives, so do children learn to read at different times during their first grade year.
The report card for first grade attempts to show
the developmental progress of your child throughout the year.

The grading key for first grade is:

S- Successful with Independence
Very few first graders are working independently at the beginning of the year with the exception of citizenship and work habits.  Our goal is to help them become independent, organized learners by the end of the year.

 P- Progressing
Most first graders are at this point in their learning for the first couple of six weeks.  They are progressing with assistance.  We are doing most activities together.

N-Needs more time and assistance in order to develop this skill
We expect that all students will learn to read, do math, write, spell and learn science and social studies concepts by the end of the year.  If your child has an N on their report card this is an area that needs more time to develop.  It would be helpful if you reinforce and follow up with this area at home.

Please refrain from thinking of this report card as you would an older child’s report card.
S is not equal to an A and P is not equal to a B or C.
You should not expect your child’s report card to have all S’s.
puppiesBy accepting it as a developmental peek at your child’s learning
you will allow your child to grow and develop during the year
without the unnecessary pressure of grades.
