McHarg Elementary
School Wide Discipline

I can do it!
McHarg Elementary has developed and adopted a school wide program for discipline.  Students are taught the expectations for each area of the school.  Behaviors are reinforced with Kid Cash.  Students are allowed to trade in their Kid Cash for special privileges. These privileges include but are not limited to eating lunch with a friend, show and share, treasure box, free from homework coupon, holding the class guinea pig during independent reading time.  We add more privileges as appropriate.

Kid Cash Rules
 Adult Rules:

1.     Bucks are given for safe, responsible, peaceful  or any other behavior that you would like to reinforce.  Teachers and staff may give bucks to kids anywhere and at anytime when they observe good behavior. (ex. halls, lunchroom, bus wait, etc.)

2.     No bucks can be taken back after they are given.  You may continue to use  whatever consequences you have already established for problem behavior.

3.     Only give out $1.00 bills.  Students may trade in bucks from their baggie for fives and tens in their homeroom class for storage and to have enough 1’s available.  (Some kids may choose to save their bucks.

4.  Some teachers may give out more than other teachers depending on the make up of their particular class at a given time.  (some may need more reinforcement)  You may want to consider making your prices for privileges comparable to this fact.  For example A teacher who gives out few bucks  may have lower prices and a teacher who gives out lots of cash may have higher prices. It would be reasonable to expect that children in different classrooms would earn privileges in about the same amount of time no matter the cost. high give out – high prices; low give -out low prices)

                               Kid Rules:

1.     Students may not take cash  home.  Some students may receive cash at bus wait and will be responsible for bringing cash in the next morning to be stored in their baggie.  Cash is the responsibility of the students and will not be replaced if lost.

2.  Students will not trade or give any of their cash to any other
student. Cash that is found should be turned into an adult.

3.  Students will not ask for cash.
