As of today, Radford City Schools has been forced to close schools for inclement weather a total of 7 days and delayed the opening of school by two hours today. The number of days missed to frigid temperatures, snow, and ice this early in the winter season is concerning as our students having access to instruction on a consistent basis is a priority. Therefore, RCPS is altering its 2017-2018 calendar in two ways:
First, report cards were scheduled to go home Monday, January 22, 2018. Report cards are now scheduled to go home Tuesday, January 23, 2018. All schools will send their 2nd Quarter Report Cards home on Tuesday, January 23, 2018.
Secondly and very important, the week of February 20th to February 23rd was originally scheduled for teacher development and/or data review. RCPS has decided to cancel those professional development days and replace them as student days. Schools will now be open February 20th - February 23rd for students and staff. RCPS will remain closed Monday, February 19th, in honor of President's Day, but reopen regular school hours on Tuesday, February 20, 2018.
RCPS will work with students and/or staff members who have prior commitments the week of February 20th. Please contact your child’s teacher and/or building administrator as soon as possible to discuss absentee regulations if your child/children will miss due to prior commitments for the February 20th regular school week.
Thank you for your support as we work together to get through an already challenging winter.
