The Radford City Public School system is well aware of the concern that students, parents, staff and community members have regarding the flu and other diseases that could potentially cause mass student absences in our schools. Please know that we have taken the following precautions to help prevent the spread of infections from student to student:
Our custodians have been asked to thoroughly disinfect our schools before students arrive and after they leave.
We have reminded students and staff of proper procedures in keeping diseases from spreading (ex. washing hands/using sanitizer, not sharing food/water, coughing in their sleeve, wearing proper, protective clothing outside, etc.).
Our nurses have been vigilant in making sure that students they see daily are evaluated closely and sent home if there are any questions of a possible sickness.
Our division leadership team will continue to monitor the daily absences we have at each school and at the division level, and discuss student and building needs depending upon these absentee numbers.
We would ask that parents and guardians do the following to support our efforts in keeping diseases and sicknesses from spreading:
Keep your child home if they are not feeling well (ongoing headache, body aches, chronic cough, sore throat, and/or fever). Please call to report the absence so that we can monitor the number of students with the flu and other related illnesses.
Do not send them back to school until they are well and fever free.
Remind your child of the precautions they can follow (listed above) to help keep illnesses from spreading.
If possible, provide them with their own clean water bottle to drink out of each day.
If you have questions or concerns about the information listed in this email, please don’t hesitate to contact a school building or central office administrator.
