2017 - 2018 Indicator 8 Parent Involvement Survey

As you are aware, the dissemination of the “hard copy” version of the School Year (SY) 2017-2018 Indicator 8 Parent Survey was delayed from its previously intended release date of May 1, 2018.  The delay has now been resolved and the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) anticipates dissemination of the hard copy survey to each local educational agency (LEA) no later than July 15, 2018.  The VDOE acknowledges that this delay will be problematic to LEAs in distributing the survey to their parents before students leave on summer break.  Therefore, VDOE will be extending the due date of the surveys to December 14, 2018.  Additionally, school divisions may continue to have parents access the “on-line” version of the SY 2017-2018 parent survey.  The on-line survey will remain open throughout the collection cycle.  Parents may access the SY 2017-2018 survey, in English and Spanish, at the following websites:

English Version ----- https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/VDOE2018English

Spanish Version ----- https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/VDOE2018Espanol

The VDOE is asking for your assistance in promoting the completion of the survey by each of your families who has a child with a disability served through an individualized education program (IEP).  Families who have more than one child receiving special education services should complete a survey for each child.  If parents are choosing to use the on-line survey, they will be able to complete any additional surveys from the same computer.  Furthermore, should a local educational agency determine that they want to provide a central location for parents to complete the on-line survey; the survey program will permit, without limitation, any number of respondents from the same device.

Thank you for your understanding as we work to improve our Indicator 8 data collection and ability to provide meaningful reports and feedback from your parents who have students with disabilities.  If you have any questions or need assistance, please contact Hank Millward, Director, Office of Specialized Education Facilities and Family Engagement (SEFFE), via email, at Hank.Millward@doe.virginia.gov, or via telephone, at (804) 371-0525 (office) or (804) 301-1171 (cell).
