Rachel M. Waff
Early Childhood Special Education Teacher
I began teaching in 2007 and have been working as a Preschool Special Education Teacher at McHarg Elementary in 2011.
I committed to graduate from Liberty High School in 2004. I also committed to graduate from Radford University in 2007 with my bachelors degree and in 2009 with my Masters.
I was inspired to teach by my own experience as a student with special education services. I was diagnosed with a reading disability in the first grade. I received special education services until I was in the sixth grade. My senior year of high school, I was planning to become and Elementary Education teacher. I was blessed to have the opportunity to complete a internship in a Kindergarten classroom at the primary school I attended. The Kindergarten classroom I served in just so happened to provided inclusive services to multiple students with special needs. I was able to work along side the special education teacher that provided me the help I needed to succeed as a young child. I soon fell in love with the profession and knew that my career path and heart would lead me to serve in this field.
I absolutely love my job! I am one of the luckiest people in the world. I get to come to work every day and be greeted by unconditional love, smiles and excitement to learn. Even on hard days, seeing the progress my students make throughout the year renews my energy and keeps me coming back for more.
