Sandra O. Findley
Music Specialist K-6
I have taught at Belle Heth Elementary for 15 years.
I committed to graduate from John S. Battle High School in 1979. I also committed to graduate from Virginia Highlands Community College in 1981, and Virginia Intermont College in 1985. I also committed to receive my certification in 1989 in Orff Schulwerk from George Mason University. I have also received a National Board Certified Teacher in 2008 in Early and Middle Childhood Music.
I was most inspired to become a music teacher through my love of music, and my mother, who was a Kindergarten teacher. I remember going to elementary music class and feeling the most at home there. My most vivid memory was of a teacher who sang folk songs and played guitar. I knew that's what I wanted to do! I also loved band, played clarinet and bass clarinet, and spent my high school years as a member of the John Battle band, and served as Drum Major for three years. I have a love of folk and americana music, and sang in bands and did solo work through college and after.
What I am most looking forward to this year is seeing my students grow as musicians. We may not all pursue music through middle and high school, but I want them to enjoy a basic knowledge of music theory, and to learn about different time periods and styles of music before they leave Belle Heth.
We will sing, dance, move and play instruments, and have a wonderful time together!
