I have worked in the RCPS Central Office for the past two years. Prior to that, I taught video production at RHS for four years. While my children were young, I spent a number of years as an adjunct professor at Virginia Tech, teaching both face-to-face and online courses. My first job out of college was at James Madison Middle School in Roanoke, where I taught in the Math, Science, and Computer Magnet Program. I committed to graduate from Radford High School in 1985. I also committed to graduate from Virginia Tech in 1989 (BA), 1992 (MS), and 1999 (PhD). I really enjoy the relationships I’ve built through my career in education, both with students and with colleagues who share a passion for education. I’ve had teachers throughout my years as a student who made me feel special, and I think students who feel special are more motivated to do well and are more likely to enjoy school. I’m looking forward to the exciting, student-centered changes that will take place at DIS and RHS next year and feel these changes will give students and teachers more time to connect – academically and personally.
