Welcome to the Nurse's Office!
Welcome to the McHarg Elementary School Nurse's Office! I am very excited to start a great school year. My name is Kelly Minnick. I was an Orthopedic and Labor & Delivery Registered Nurse before staying at home after my daughter was born. I returned to work as a school nurse when my little one started kindergarten. This is the start of my 6th year in school nursing! I love serving as a school nurse because it allows me to be involved with children's health from a young age and teach them how to grow into healthy adults. My favorite saying is, "Students must be healthy to be educated and educated to be healthy"!
The National Association of School Nurses defines school nursing as:
A specialized practice of professional nursing that advances the well-being, academic success, and life-long achievement of students. To that end, school nurses facilitate positive student responses to normal development; promote health and safety; intervene with actual and potential health problems; provide case management services; and actively collaborate with others to build student and family capacity for adaptation, self-management, self-advocacy, and learning.
If your child has any health concerns, keeping me and the teacher updated is very important. If you have any questions or concerns throughout the school year, please feel free to call or email me. My email is [email protected], and my phone number is 540-731-3652.
I look forward to meeting you this school year!
- One in 10 children has #asthma. Asthma is also the primary reason children miss school – an average of 13.8 million lost days of school each year. @AllergyAsthmaHQ has information available for you: https://allergyasthmanetwork.org/what-is-asthma/asthma-in-babies-and-children/
