RCPS has a number of important announcements about the opening of the 2023-2024 school year.
Open House - All schools will offer Open House on Thursday, August 10, 2023. The schedule for Open House is as follows:
McHarg Elementary - 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Belle Heth Elementary - 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Dalton Intermediate - 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm
Radford High School - 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm
Bus Transportation - If your child will be riding the bus to school in the morning and/or home from school in the afternoon, please fill out the Student Transportation Registration form.
RCPS is currently planning their 23-24 bus routes and is in need of your information to plan the most efficient routes possible. Please be aware that if you do not fill out this registration form, your student(s) will not be included on a bus route to begin the year.
Early Riser’s Program at the Elementary Schools - RCPS is in the process of creating an Early Riser's Morning Program for working parents at both McHarg Elementary School and Belle Heth Elementary School. For the months of August and September, the program will run from 7:40 am until 8:10 am. RCPS hopes to maintain the Early Riser’s Program throughout the school year, but cannot guarantee its continuation as it is based on grant funding. More information will be made available to families once grant status is known.
If you are interested in having your child(ren) participate, please make sure you have completed the Early Riser's Program Application. If you filled this form out in the spring, there is no need to do another one as your application is on file. If you are unsure of your application being on file, feel free to complete one at this time to ensure we have your information. Applications must be submitted prior to August 11,2023 in order for children to participate in the Early Riser’s Program. RCPS will contact families early next week on the status of their child(ren) participating in the Early Riser's Morning Program.
School Nutrition Information - RCPS is pleased to announce that all RCPS students (McHarg, Belle Heth, Dalton, and RHS) will receive breakfast and lunch at no cost for the 2023-2024 school year as each school will be participating in the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) under the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010. However, please be aware that all “a la carte” items must be paid for. No charging of a la carte foods will be permitted. First Days of School - RCPS will once again open its school year with a staggered start.
Monday, August 14, 2023 - First day of school for Preschool, 1st grade, and 9th grade students.
Tuesday, August 15, 2023 - First day of school for Kindergarten and students in grades 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11,12. (Second day for 9th graders as their presence on Monday, August 14 was for orientation purposes.)
Wednesday, August 16, 2023 - Second day of school - All students attend.
